BUT each state is setup different with collecting on credit card debt when a family member has passed. In some cases the spouse is liable for the debt even though he/she is not an applicant rather authorized user. In other cases the death certificate is considered acceptable the the debt is washed out. In cases where the spouse is an authorized user. in a state where the credit card industry requires the debt to be paid- the most often go after the estate... In this case an attorney is needed to help fend them away... and usually assets are hidden so the credit card company can take it up the a--!! :-) It's a similar story to what my family went through….
